6-OHDA lesion induction alters the expression of the endogenous magnesium transporter SLC41A1 in a rat model of parkinsonian disease, and that the changes are responsive to a certain concentration of MgSO4. The administration of MgSO4 before the degenerative process commenced was effective in ameliorating the motor behavior and to some extent preventing DAnergic neurons from degeneration.
