While characterizing halotolerant bacteria from Big Bone Lick State Park salt springs we identified a Bacillus pumilus isolate F12-21 that exhibited broad inhibitory properties to both co-inhabiting salt spring bacteria as well as to bacteria often associated with human and animal infection (E. coli, S. epidermidis and S. marcescens).
