Patients undergoing colorectal cancer screening colonoscopy at the Vienna General Hospital were enrolled in the study, and samples from 24 patients with irritable bowel syndrome, 5 with ulcerative colitis, and 21 controls (with no identified carcinomas at colonoscopy) were included.
