More...Streptococcus dysgalactiae (Lancefield group C; GCSD) is a classical etiologic agent of diseases in animals and human beings. It was first associated with fish diseases in 2002, being responsible for outbreaks in amberjack (Seriola dumerili) and yellowtail (Seriola quinqueradiata) farms in Japan. Since 2011, this bacterium has been recognized as an emergent pathogen for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) farming in Brazil. The disease in tilapia is characterized by septicaemia and subcutaneous abscess, which causes moderate to high mortalities during outbreaks.
