To characterize novel regulatory systems controlling siderophore production in the opportunistic pathogen Chromobacterium violaceum, we performed RNa-seq analysis on mutants with increased siderophore halos. Comparing data from high cell density cultures of wild type, vitR, cviI, and cviR mutants, we identified a regulatory cascade controlling siderophore involving VitR acting upstream of the quorum sensing (QS) system CviIR. Our data indicated that CviR regulates CviI-dependent and -independent regulons.
