Epidemiological and microbiological analyses of clinical and environmental Verona Integron encoded Metallo beta Lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae isolates demonstrate spread to local healthcare facilities and contamination of environmental water in Southern Ontario, Canada, which is probably due to horizontal gene transfer and clonal spread of blaVIM carrying Enterobacter hormaechei.
