project nameShotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal samples collected from 18 pregnant sows at days 37 (beginning) and 114 (immediately pre-farrowing) of pregnancy reveal that parity is associated with changes in the porcine gut microbiome at the end, and not the beginning, of pregnancy. Shotgun metagenomic sequencing of fecal swabs from 3 offspring from each mother 10 days after birth reveals that maternal parity is associated with the early infant gut microbiome composition.
