Metagenomic sequencing of KB-1: a mixed microbial consortium used to enhance bioremediation of chlorinated solvents in subsurface environments. This series of cultures were originally enriched from contaminated sediment from Southern Ontario in 1996. Subsequent transfers in 1998 were amended with trichloroethene and 5x electron equivalents of methanol (MeOH). The culture was transferred and enriched on 1,2-dichloroethane (1,2-DCA) and 5x MeOH in 2003. Formally named KB-1/1,2-DCA-MeOH after its lineage, electron acceptor and donor. This culture continues to be maintained batch style in anaerobic minimal medium in the Edwards Laboratory at the University of Toronto.
