Venn diagram showing the significant overlap of loci associated with type 2 diabetes and four metabolic traits: B M I, triglycerides, systolic blood pressure, and fasting glucose.

FIGURE 3.

Genetic Loci Associated With Type 2 Diabetes Are Also Associated With Other Metabolic Traits.

The top associated variants that tag signals at 520 autosomal type 2 diabetes (T2D)-associated loci were used to tabulate the number of signals where the tagged variant demonstrates association with one or more cardiometabolic traits (p<1x10-3), including triglycerides (203), systolic blood pressure (204), body mass index (205), or fasting glucose (48). Directionality of the risk allele for type 2 diabetes and cardiometabolic traits was not considered.
