NCBI Contamination Screening
Description of contamination screening and tools
NCBI uses two major screening tools to identify contaminated sequences in genome assemblies, Foreign Contamination Screen (FCS) and Average Nucleotide Identity (ANI). Assemblies are computationally assigned as contaminated when contamination levels exceed pre-defined thresholds. Additionally, assemblies can be manually assigned as contaminated based on review.
