Downregulation of Human Melanotransferrin on SK-Mel-28 Cell Line

(Submitter supplied) Melanoma tumor antigen p97 or melanotransferrin (MTf) is an iron (Fe)-binding protein with high homology to serum transferrin. MTf is expressed at very low levels in normal tissues and in high amounts in melanoma cells. The over-expression of MTf in tumor cells was hypothesized to assist rapidly proliferating neoplastic cells with their increased Fe requirements. However, our recent characterization of the MTf knockout (MTf -/-) mouse demonstrated that MTf did not have an essential role in Fe metabolism. more...

Expression Studies of Melanotransferrin in Mouse Brain

(Submitter supplied) Melanotransferrin (MTf) or melanoma tumor antigen p97 is an iron (Fe)-binding transferrin homolog expressed highly on melanomas and at lower levels on normal tissues. It has been suggested that MTf is involved in a variety of processes such as Fe metabolism and cellular differentiation. Considering the crucial role of Fe in many metabolic pathways e.g., DNA synthesis, it is important to understand the function of MTf. more...

Nm23-H1 suppresses tumor cell motility by downregulating the LPA receptor

(Submitter supplied) Exogenous overexpression of the metastasis suppressor gene Nm23-H1 reduces the metastatic potential of multiple types of cancer cells. In addition, Nm23-H1 expression suppresses in vitro tumor cell motility and invasion, important correlates of metastasis. The molecular mechanism by which Nm23-H1 suppresses metastasis, motility and invasion has yet to be defined. However, mutational analysis of Nm23-H1 has revealed that substitution mutant P96S and S120G are unable to inhibit cell motility. more...

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

Expression data from RNAi SNCA treated human neuroblastoma cell line

(Submitter supplied) The pre-synaptic protein α-synuclein is a key player in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease. Together with accumulation and missfolding of α-synuclein protofibrils serve as seed structures for the aggregation of numerous proteins in the cytoplasm of neuronal cells, the so-called Lewy bodies. Furthermore, missense mutations in the SNCA gene and gene multiplications lead to autosomal dominant forms of familiar PD. more...
