Expression profiles from a variety of resting and activated human immune cells

(Submitter supplied) Immune cell-specific expression is one indication of the importance of a gene's role in the immune response. In order to identify such patterns, we set out to broadly profile gene expression in a variety of immune cells.

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

T lymphocyte activation gene identification by coregulated expression on DNA microarrays

(Submitter supplied) High-capacity methods for assessing gene function have become increasingly important because of the increasing number of newly identified genes emerging from large-scale genome sequencing and cDNA cloning efforts. We investigated the use of DNA microarrays to identify uncharacterized genes specifically involved in human T cell activation. Activation of human peripheral blood T lymphocytes induced significant changes in hundreds of transcripts, but most of these were not unique to T cell activation. more...

Analysis of the in vitro transcriptional response of human pharyngeal epithelial cells to adherent pneumococci

(Submitter supplied) Infection of the human host by Streptococcus pneumoniae begins with colonization of the nasopharynx, which is mediated by adherence of bacteria to respiratory epithelium. Several studies have indicated an important role for the pneumococcal capsule in this process. Here, we used microarrays to characterize the in vitro transcriptional response of human nasopharyngeal epithelial Detroit 562 cells to adherence of serotype 2-encapsulated strain D39, serotype 19F-encapsulated strain G54, serotype 4-encapsulated strain TIGR4, and their nonencapsulated derivatives (Δcps). more...

Laser microdissection and microarray analysis of the hippocampus of Rasgrf1 knockout mice

(Submitter supplied) We used manual macrodissection or laser capture microdissection (LCM) to isolate tissue sections of the hippocampus area of Ras-GRF1 wild type and knockout mice brains, and analyzed their transcriptional patterns using commercial oligonucleotide microarrays. Comparison between the transcriptomes of macrodissected and microdissected samples showed that the LCM samples allowed detection of significantly higher numbers of differentially expressed genes, with higher statistical rates of significance. more...

Expression data from non-infected and Salmonella Choleraesuis infected mesenteric lymph nodes

(Submitter supplied) To understand the host transcriptional response to S. enterica serovar Choleraesuis (S. Choleraesuis), the first generation Affymetrix porcine GeneChip® was used to identify differentially expressed genes in the mesenteric lymph nodes responding to infection at acute (8 hours (h), 24h, 48h post-inoculation (pi)) and chronic stages (21 days (d) pi) The objectives of this study were to identify and examine the stereotypical gene expression response within the host mesenteric lymph nodes to S. more...

Genomic alterations and gene expression in primary diffuse large B cell lymphomas of immune privileged sites

(Submitter supplied) Primary diffuse large B cell lymphomas of different immune-privileged sites (IP-DLBCL) share many clinical and biological features, such as a relatively poor prognosis, preferential dissemination to other immune-privileged sites and deletion of the HLA region, which suggests that IP-DLBCL represents a separate entity. To further investigate the nature of IP-DLBCL, we investigated site-specific genomic aberrations in 16 testicular, 9 central nervous system (CNS) and 15 nodal DLBCL using array-CGH. more...
