Expression data from low nitrate culture in root in maize

(Submitter supplied) Nitrate is the major source of nitrogen available for many crop plants and is often the limiting factor for plant growth and agricultural productivity especially for maize. Many studies have been done identifying the transcriptome changes under low nitrate conditions. However, the microRNAs (miRNAs) varied under nitrate limiting conditions in maize has not been reported. MiRNAs play important roles in abiotic stress responses and nutrient deprivation. more...

Identification of miRNAs and their target genes in developing maize ears by deep sequencing

(Submitter supplied) In plants, MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a new class of endogenous small RNAs that play essential regulatory roles in plant growth, development and stress response. Extensive studies of miRNAs have been performed in model plants such as rice, Arabidopsis thaliana and other plants. However, the number of miRNAs discovered in maize is relatively low and little is known about miRNAs involved in the four stages during maize ear development. more...

Transcriptional characterization of maize roots in response to urea and nitrate

(Submitter supplied) Although urea is the most used nitrogen fertilizer worldwide, little is known on the capacity of crop plants to use urea per se as a nitrogen source for development and growth. To date, the molecular and physiological bases of its transport have been investigated only in a limited number of species. In particular, up to date only one study reported the transcriptomic modulation induced by urea treatment in the model plant Arabidopsis (Mérigout et al., 2008 doi: 10.1104/pp.108.119339). more...

Genome-wide identification of microRNAs in larch and stage-specific modulation of eleven conserved microRNAs and their targets during somatic embryogenesi

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as essential regulators of biological processes. Somatic embryogenesis is one of the most important techniques for gymnosperm breeding programs, but there is little understanding of its underlying mechanism. To investigate the roles of miRNAs during somatic embryogenesis in larch, we constructed a small RNA library from somatic embryos. High-throughput sequencing of the library identified 83 conserved miRNAs from 35 families, 16 novel miRNAs, and 14 plausible miRNA candidates, with a high proportion specific to larch or gymnosperms. more...

Analysis of the nitrate-responsive transcriptome of the Arabidopsis root

(Submitter supplied) Nitrate and other nitrogen metabolites can act as signals that regulate global gene expression in plants. Adaptive changes in plant morphology and physiology triggered by changes in nitrate availability are partly explained by these changes in gene expression. Despite several genome-wide efforts to identify nitrate-regulated genes, no comprehensive study of the Arabidopsis root transcriptome under contrasting nitrate conditions has been carried out. more...

High-throughput sequencing of small RNA transcriptome reveals salt stressed regulated microRNAs in sugarcane

(Submitter supplied) Salt stress is a primary cause of crop losses worldwide, and it has been the subject of intense investigation to unravel the complex mechanisms responsible for salinity tolerance. MicroRNA is implicated in many developmental processes and in responses to various abiotic stresses, playing pivotal roles in plant adaptation. Deep sequencing technology was chosen to determine the small RNA transcriptome of Saccharum sp cultivars grown on saline conditions. more...

Uncovering small RNA-mediated responses to phosphate-deficiency in Arabidopsis by deep sequencing

(Submitter supplied) Deep sequencing of Arabidopsis thaliana small RNAs was conducted to reveal microRNAs (miRNAs) and other small RNAs that were differentially expressed in response to phosphate (Pi) deficiency. About 3.5 million sequence reads corresponding to 0.6-1.2 million unique sequence tags from each Pi-sufficient or -deficient root or shoot sample were mapped to the Arabidopsis genome. We showed that upon Pi deprivation, the expression of miR156, miR399, miR778 and miR827 was induced, whereas the expression of miR169, miR395 and miR398 was repressed. more...

Screening of differentially expressed microRNAs and target genes in two potato varieties under nitrogen stress

(Submitter supplied) Background: A reasonable supply of nitrogen (N) fertilizer is essential for obtaining high-quality, high-level, and stable potato yields, and an improvement in the N utilization efficiency can effectively reduce N fertilizer use. It is important to use accurate, straightforward, and efficient transgenic breeding techniques for the identification of genes that can improve nitrogen use efficiency, thus enabling us to achieve the ultimate goal of breeding N-efficient potato varieties. more...

Identification and characterization of novel maize miRNAs involved in different genetic background

(Submitter supplied) MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a class of small, non-coding regulatory RNAs that regulate gene expression by guiding target mRNA cleavage or translational inhibition in plants and animals. At present there is relatively little information regarding the role of miRNAs in the response to drought stress in maize. In this study, two small RNA libraries were sequenced, and a total of 11,973,711 and 14,326,010 raw sequences were generated from growing leaves of drought-tolerant and drought-sensitive maize seedlings, respectively. more...

Identification and comparative analysis of microRNAs associated with low-N tolerance in rice genotypes

(Submitter supplied) Micro-RNA associated with low-N tolerance have been identified in rice (Oryza sativa) genotypes on the basis of differential expression of miRNA in low-N tolerant and low-N sensitive genotypes of rice. Since, miRNAs emerged as key players in plant responses and adaptation to stress, identification of low-N responsive miRNAs and their targets could help to uncover the molecular mechanisms of N-deficiency tolerance in plants. more...
