Dietary zinc status reversibly alters both the feeding behaviors of the rats and gene expression patterns in diencephalon

(Submitter supplied) Nutritional status influences feeding behaviors, food preferences and taste sensations. For example, zinc-deficient rats have been reported to show reduced and cyclic food intake patterns with increased preferences for NaCl. Although some impairments of the central nervous and endocrine systems have been speculated to be involved in these phenomena, the effects of short-term zinc deficiency on the brain have not been well examined to date. more...

Diencephalon response to short-term dietary zinc deficiency followed by zinc recovery

Analysis of diencephalon from Sprague-Dawley males fed a zinc-deficient diet for 10 days then a control diet for 6 days. The zinc recovery restored food intake behaviors and salt preferences. Results provide insight into the molecular effects of short-term zinc deficiency and recovery on the brain.

Short-term dietary zinc deficiency effect on diencephalon

Analysis of diencephalon from Sprague-Dawley males fed a zinc-deficient diet for 10 days. Zinc is an essential trace element; its imbalance causes deviations in eating behaviors. Results provide insight into the molecular effects of short-term zinc deficiency on the brain.
