The effects of Candida albicans on the metastatic activity of oral squamous cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) The effects of Candida albicans on the metastatic activity of oral squamous cell carcinoma was observed in vitro and in vivo. In the in vitro experimental setup HO-1-N-1 and HSC-2 human oral squamous cell carcinoma cell lines were treated with zymosan, heat-killed Candida albicans, heat-killed C. parapsilosis, live C. albicans and live C. parapsilosis. Whole transcriptomics was performed of the human tumor cells. more...

A YAP/TAZ-Regulated Molecular Signature is Associated with Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a prevalent form of cancer that develops from the epithelium of the oral cavity. OSCC is on the rise worldwide, and death rates associated with the disease are particularly high. Despite progress in understanding of the mutational and expression landscape associated with OSCC, advances in deciphering these alterations for the development of therapeutic strategies have been limited. more...

Gene expression profiles of OSCC cells and the metastatic sublines

(Submitter supplied) The orthotopic transplantation of human OEC-M1 cells in immune-compromised mice was established to feasibly study tumorigenesis and lymph node metastasis of OSCC. Through in vivo selection, two sublines, designated as LN1-1 and LN1-2 were successfully isolated from cervical lymph nodes and identified to originate from OEC-M1 cells.

Glutamine synthetase regulates the alternative metabolism of γ-aminobutyrate in oral squamous cell carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) More than 90% of cancer cases in head and neck region are oral squamous cell carcinoma. Recent studies identified several tumor-specific metabolites for the screening or diagnosis of OSCC patients. However, the metabolic reprogramming of OSCC is not well understood. Here, we compared the metabolites between cancerous and paracancerous tissues of OSCC patients and investigated the metabolism of γ-aminobutyrate in OSCC derived cells. more...

Total RNA sequencing reveals gene expression and microbial alterations shared by oral pre-malignant lesions and cancer.

(Submitter supplied) Head and neck cancers are a complex malignancy comprising multiple anatomical sites, with cancer of the oral cavity ranking among the deadliest and most disfiguring cancers globally. Oral cancer (OC) constitutes a subset of head and neck cancer cases, presenting primarily as tobacco- and alcohol-associated oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), with a 5-year survival rate of ~65%, partly due to the lack of early detection and effective treatments. more...

A Systemic and Integrated Analysis of p63-Driven Regulatory Networks in Mouse Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma

(Submitter supplied) Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity and despite therapeutic advances, late-stage diagnoses continue to negatively affect survival, presenting a continuing challenge for clinicians. Detailed molecular characterization by recent bulk and single-cell RNA-sequencing datasets from OSCC suggest that identification of prognostic biomarkers may lead to more targeted therapies, improving  patient outcomes. more...
