Uterine fibroids with mutated fumarate hydratase (II)

Analysis of uterine fibroids with mutations in the fumarate hydratase (FH) gene. FH catalyzes the hydration of fumarate in the TCA cycle. Heterozygous germline mutations in FH cause uterine fibroids and renal cell cancer. Results provide insight into the pathogenesis of TCA cycle-related tumors.

Expression data from brain tissue of Rattus norvegicus treated with D-Serine

(Submitter supplied) d-serine is naturally present throughout the human body. It is also used as add-on therapy for treatment-refractory schizophrenia. d-Serine interacts with the strychnine-insensitive glycine binding site of NMDA receptor, and this interaction could lead to potentially toxic activity (i.e., excitotoxicity) in brain tissue. The transcriptomic changes that occur in the brain after d-serine exposure have not been fully explored. more...

D-serine effect on the brain: dose response

Analysis of forebrains of animals treated with up to 500 mg/kg D-serine for 96 hours. D-serine is involved in many physiological processes through its interaction with the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor. Results provide insight into the impact of D-serine exposure on neuronal functions.

Hepatic gene expression profiling of GH transgenic coho salmon with and without ration restriction

(Submitter supplied) This is the first use of cDNA microarrays to study the influence of GH transgenesis on liver gene expression in a non-mammalian vertebrate. Three groups of salmon were examined: transgenic on full ration (T), transgenic on restricted ration (R), and control nontransgenic (C). Daily weight gains in T were approximately 8-fold higher than in C, and 4-fold higher than in R. Differential gene expression in T, R, and C samples was determined using ~ 16,000 gene microarrays. more...

Differential gene expression in resting human skeletal muscle of sedentary and highly-trained individuals.

(Submitter supplied) We used gene microarray analysis to compare the global expression profile of genes involved in adaptation to exercise training in skeletal muscle from chronically strength/resistance trained (ST), endurance trained (ET) and untrained control subjects (Con). Resting skeletal muscle samples (~100mg) were obtained from the vastus lateralis of 20 subjects (Con n=7, ET n=7, ST n=6; trained groups >8 years specific training). more...

Comparison of Human and Rat Uterine Leiomyoma: Identification of a Dysregulated mTOR Pathway

(Submitter supplied) Uterine leiomyomata, or fibroids, are benign tumors of the uterine myometrium that significantly affect up to 30% of reproductive-age women. Despite being the primary cause of hysterectomy in the United States, accounting for up to 200,000 procedures annually, the etiology of leiomyoma remains largely unknown. Due to the lack of an effective medicinal therapy for these tumors, this disease continues to have a tremendous negative impact on women’s health. more...
