Phenylethyl isothiocyanate and N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine cotreatment effect on the esophagus

Analysis of esophagi of animals treated with the carcinogen N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA), the chemopreventive agent phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), or both compounds. Results provide insight into effect of PEITC on the development of NMBA-induced esophageal tumorigenesis.

Effects of Phenylethyl Isothiocyanate on N-Nitrosomethylbenzylamine-induced Cytotoxicity in Rat Esophagus

(Submitter supplied) To date, there is little information on early molecular events in the development of N-nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA) induced esophageal tumorigenesis and of the effects of chemopreventive agents on these events. In this study, we identified genes in rat esophagus that were differentially expressed in response to short–term NMBA-treatment and modulated by co-treatment with phenethylisothiocyanate (PEITC). more...

Effects of Black Raspberry diet on N-Nitrosomethylbenzylamine-altered gene expression in Rat Esophagus

(Submitter supplied) Our recent study (Reen et al., Cancer Res 2007;67:6484-92) identified 2261 dysregulated genes in the esophagi of rats that received a one week exposure to the carcinogen, N-Nitrosomethylbenzylamine (NMBA). We further reported that 1323 of these genes were positively modulated in the esophagus of NMBA-treated animals that also consumed dietary phenethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC), a constituent of cruciferous vegetables. more...

microRNA expression in rat lung receiving chemopreventive agents and attenuation of cigarette smoke-induced alterations

(Submitter supplied) We previously showed that exposure of rats to environmental cigarette smoke (ECS) causes extensive downregulation of microRNA expression in the lung, resulting in overexpression of multiple genes and proteins. In the present study, we evaluated by microarray the expression of 484 microRNAs in the lung of rats receiving orally chemopreventive agents, including N-acetylcysteine, oltipraz, indole-3-carbinol, 5,6-benzoflavone and phenethyl isothiocyanate, or combinations thereof. more...
