Summary
This region contains a brain enhancer of the sonic hedgehog (Shh) gene, located approximately 12 kb downstream. While the entire sequence promotes expression of a reporter gene in the floor plate of the developing nervous system, a subset of this sequence can function as a specific enhancer in the notochord. Function of the notochord element may depend on binding by hepatocyte nuclear factor 3/forkhead family proteins. [provided by RefSeq, Sep 2015]
