Galt - Galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase

Enables UDP-glucose:hexose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase activity. Involved in UDP-galactose biosynthetic process; UDP-glucose metabolic process; and galactose catabolic process via UDP-galactose. Predicted to be active in cytosol. Is expressed in several structures, including adult head; anterior endoderm; embryonic/larval midgut primordium; epithelium; and gut section. Used to study classic galactosemia and galactosemia. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in classic galactosemia. Orthologous to human GALT (galactose-1-phosphate uridylyltransferase).
