Sod1 - Superoxide dismutase 1
Enables protein homodimerization activity and superoxide dismutase activity. Involved in several processes, including determination of adult lifespan; positive regulation of mitophagy; and regulation of terminal button organization. Located in peroxisome. Is expressed in several structures, including Malpighian tubule; digestive system; germline cell; gonad; and salivary gland. Used to study amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis type 1. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in several diseases, including Down syndrome; artery disease (multiple); eye disease (multiple); glucose metabolism disease (multiple); and neurodegenerative disease (multiple). Orthologous to human SOD1 (superoxide dismutase 1). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Dec 2024]
