Summary
Enables alpha-aminoacyl-tRNA binding activity; ribosomal large subunit binding activity; and tRNA binding activity. Involved in CAT tailing and peptide biosynthetic process. Located in cytoplasmic stress granule. Part of RQC complex. Is active in cytosolic ribosome. Used to study neuromuscular disease. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in neuromuscular disease. Orthologous to human NEMF (nuclear export mediator factor). [provided by Alliance of Genome Resources, Jan 2025]

  • Component of the Ribosome Quality Control (RQC) complex; RQC is a ribosome-bound complex required for degradation of polypeptides arising from stalled translation; recruits alanine- and threonine-charged tRNA to the A site and directs noncanonical elongation of nascent chains independently of mRNA or 40S subunits in a process called CAT (carboxyl-terminal alanine and threonine) tailing, promoting LTN1-mediated ubiquitination; monitors translation stress and signals this to Hsf1p
