  • The YSIRK form of extended signal peptide directs nascent proteins to the cross-wall site, while signal peptides lacking YSIRK direct proteins instead to the cell pole. A large fraction of YSIRK proteins are surface proteins anchored by sortase-mediated processing of a C-terminal LPXTG motif.
