    Summary
Telomerase is a ribonucleoprotein polymerase that maintains telomere ends by addition of the telomere repeat TTAGGG. The enzyme consists of a protein component with reverse transcriptase activity, and an RNA component which serves as a template for the telomere repeat. Deregulation of telomerase expression in somatic cells may be involved in oncogenesis. Telomerase may also participate in chromosomal repair, since de novo synthesis of telomere repeats may occur at double-stranded breaks. In contrast with human telomerase, murine telomerase is expressed in many normal postnatal somatic tissues. [provided by RefSeq, Jul 2008]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
