    Enables mRNA 3'-UTR binding activity. Involved in several processes, including germ-line stem-cell niche homeostasis; nervous system development; and positive regulation of receptor signaling pathway via JAK-STAT. Located in axon; cytosol; and neuronal cell body. Part of catalytic step 2 spliceosome and precatalytic spliceosome. Is expressed in several structures, including adult brain cell body rind; epithelial cell; epithelium; germline cell; and neuroblasts. Used to study acquired metabolic disease. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus. Orthologous to human IGF2BP1 (insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 1); IGF2BP2 (insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 2); and IGF2BP3 (insulin like growth factor 2 mRNA binding protein 3).
