    Summary
This gene encodes a member of the crystallin family of proteins that contribute to the transparency and refractive properties of the ocular lens. The encoded protein associates with other beta crystallin proteins to form dimers, tetramers and other higher-order complexes. This gene is located adjacent to a related crystallin gene on chromosome 5. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq, Aug 2015]

RefSeqs maintained independently of Annotated Genomes

These reference sequences exist independently of genome builds. Explain

These reference sequences are curated independently of the genome annotation cycle, so their versions may not match the RefSeq versions in the current genome build. Identify version mismatches by comparing the version of the RefSeq in this section to the one reported in Genomic regions, transcripts, and products above.
