    What's a GeneRIF?
    1. A hexamer of the periplasmic protein MacA bridges between a TolC trimer in the outer membrane and a MacB dimer in the inner membrane, generating a quaternary structure with a central channel for substrate translocation.

    2. Structural comparison with the previously reported MacB periplasmic domain structure suggests a molecular mechanism for regulation of the activity of MacB via an interaction between the MacB periplasmic domain and MacA. Our results provide a better understanding of the tripartite pumps at the molecular level.
