    Summary
    Anaerobically, glycine probably cannot be oxidized to form the probable thiamine biosynthetic intermediate dehydroglycine, so it is derived from tyrosine by the action of the tyrosine lyase ThiH; the products of the in vitro ThiH reaction are para-cresol and hydroglycine (Kriek, 2007). [More information is available at EcoGene: EG11590]. The ThiGH complex catalyzes the conversion of 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate to a thiazole as part of thiamine synthesis.
