    Summary
    Wildtype EbgR is inducible by lactose, although this is probably not the natural inducer. [More information is available at EcoGene: EG10254]. EbgR (for "evolved -galactosidase repressor") negatively regulates genes involved in the evolved -galactosidase system, which constitutes an alternative for lactose utilization in cells with mutations on the lacZ gene .
