    1. As shown by a combination of crystallography, kinetic and computational data, the shape and flexibility of loop L1 in the active site of PaDADH are important for substrate capture and broad substrate specificity.

Data suggest that D-arginine dehydrogenase (DADH) interacts with D-arginine substrate with a hollow at the active site, consistent with restricted proton movements in catalysis; no saturation was achieved with alternate substrate D-leucine in reductive half-reaction of variant/mutant enzymes.
