Located in endosome and plasma membrane. Part of heterotrimeric G-protein complex. Used to study McCune Albright syndrome. Human ortholog(s) of this gene implicated in color blindness (multiple); developmental and epileptic encephalopathy 17; neurodevelopmental disorder with involuntary movements; and night blindness (multiple). Orthologous to several human genes including GNAI1 (G protein subunit alpha i1); GNAI2 (G protein subunit alpha i2); and GNAI3 (G protein subunit alpha i3).
