Pan3 functions to supply the exonuclease Pan2 with substrate poly(A) RNA, facilitating efficient mRNA deadenylation.

PAN2 and PAN3 are not required for mRNA poly(A) tail length control during de novo synthesis but may act in conjuction with Pab1p at a later stage in mRNA metabolism.
