    YAP1-dependent upregulation of amphiregulin transcript and protein amplifies amphiregulin signaling in a positive feedback loop. Soluble amphiregulin was required to induce sustained EGFR activation in proximal tubule cells in vitro. Soluble amphiregulin injection reversed protection from fibrosis after ischemia-reperfusion injury in ADAM17 hypomorphic mice and the corresponding protective proximal tubule cell phenotype.

    Study showed that basophils contribute to inflammation in murine models of prurigo and atopic dermatitis via the release of Areg. Inhibition of local Areg production by repeated administration of the siRNA resulted in a partial, but significant, attenuation of skin responses.     Study demonstrated that luteinizing hormone (LH) surge-induced Hdac3 downregulation in granulosa cells (GCs) is essential for oocyte maturation. Hdac3 inhibits Areg expression through H3K14 deacetylation prior to the LH surge. Conditional knockout and inhibition of Hdac3 in GCs increase Areg expression and result in LH-independent oocyte maturation in mice.

    Study using murine luminal B breast cancer model, MMTV-PyMT crossed to Areg-knockout mice has revealed a previously unknown role of Areg in myoepithelial cell development and PyMT expression. Areg expression is essential for proper myoepithelial coverage of mammary ducts. Both Areg and myoepithelial cells can suppress PyMT expression.
