Circulating PKK confines pro-inflammatory signaling in the lung by a mechanism that does not involve contact system activation, which in the case of respiratory tract infection may impede early protective innate immunity.

Prekallikrein inhibits innate immune signaling in the lung and impairs host defense during pneumosepsis in mice.

In ambient particulate matter-induced lung injury model, Klkb1(-/-) mice exhibited a decrease in total protein, cells numbers in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) and histologic lung injury score. The TNF-alpha and IL-6 levels in BALF were significantly decreased in ambient particulate matter-treated Klkb1(-/-) mice.

Plasma kallikrein contributes to ambient particulate matter-induced lung injury.

Plasma kallikrein is detected in the urine of proteinuria and activates ENaC involving the putative prostasin cleavage site. However, PKLK is not essential for volume retention in nephrotic mice.

Plasma kallikrein activates the epithelial sodium channel in vitro but is not essential for volume retention in nephrotic mice.

we found that post-ejaculated semen from fertile wild-type males was solidified and the sperm were entrapped in Wnt7aCre/+;Esr1f/f uteri, compared to the watery semen (liquefied) found in Esr1f/f controls.Kallikrein-related peptidases 3 (KLK3) and other kallikrein-related peptidases from male prostate glands are responsible for semen liquefaction by cleaving gel-forming proteins

Crucial role of estrogen for the mammalian female in regulating semen coagulation and liquefaction in vivo.

Klkb1(-/-) mice have a novel mechanism for thrombosis protection in addition to reduced contact activation. This pathway arises when bradykinin delivery to vasculature is compromised and mediated by increased receptor Mas, prostacyclin, Sirt1, and KLF4

Reduced thrombosis in Klkb1-/- mice is mediated by increased Mas receptor, prostacyclin, Sirt1, and KLF4 and decreased tissue factor.

the prekallikrein gene (Klkb1) is expressed highly in the mammary gland during stromal remodeling periods including puberty and postlactational involution.

Active plasma kallikrein localizes to mast cells and regulates epithelial cell apoptosis, adipocyte differentiation, and stromal remodeling during mammary gland involution.
