Results show that glycine transport by neuronal glycine transporter GlyT2 responds positively to treatments promoting pain signaling including ATP. GlyT2 is up-regulated upon stimulation of ATP-preferring P2X2/3 receptors in brainstem/spinal cord primary neuronal cultures in a paracrine manner causing a rapid increase of surface transporter and glycine transport.
