Arteriovenous Anastomosis

A vessel that directly interconnects an artery and a vein, and that acts as a shunt to bypass the CAPILLARY BEDS. Not to be confused with SURGICAL ANASTOMOSIS or ARTERIOVENOUS FISTULA.
