COMMENT REVIEWED REFSEQ: This record has been curated by NCBI staff. The
reference sequence was derived from HY035781.1, BC087612.1,
            AL096767.14 and BM975530.1.
This sequence is a reference standard in the RefSeqGene project.

On Nov 22, 2018 this sequence version replaced NM_002972.3.

Summary: This gene encodes a member of the protein-tyrosine
phosphatase family. However, the encoded protein does not appear to
be a catalytically active phosphatase because it lacks several
amino acids in the catalytic pocket. This protein contains a
Guanine nucleotide exchange factor (GEF) domain which is necessary
for its role in growth and differentiation. Mutations in this gene
have been associated with Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease 4B3.
Pseudogenes of this gene have been defined on chromosomes 1 and 8.
            [provided by RefSeq, Dec 2014].

Sequence Note: This RefSeq record was created from transcript and
genomic sequence data to make the sequence consistent with the
reference genome assembly. The genomic coordinates used for the
transcript record were based on transcript alignments.
