HPF/RaiA family ribosome-associated protein
HPF/RaiA family ribosome-associated protein similar to ribosome-associated translation inhibitor RaiA, a stress-response protein that binds the ribosomal subunit interface and arrests translation by interfering with aminoacyl-tRNA binding to the ribosomal A site, and ribosome hibernation promotion factor (HPF), which is required for dimerization of active 70S ribosomes into 100S ribosomes in stationary phase
ribosome hibernation-promoting factor, HPF/YfiA family
This HMM identifies ribosome hibernation-promoting factors. In Mycobacterium tuberculosis and many other species, just one protein is hit, called HPF. In Escherichia coli K-12, this HMM identifies two paralogs, NP_417670.1 (called HPF) and NP_417088.1 (called either YfiA or RaiA), more closely related to each other (about 40 percent identity) than either is to the Mycobacterium tuberculosis protein (NP_217758.1).Hibernation is the process of suppressing protein translation by the dimerization of two ribosomes into a 100S hibernation complex. HPF promotes this dimerization.
