MGMT family protein
This is the C-terminal DNA-binding domain of 6-O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferases [1]. [1]. 8156986. Crystal structure of a suicidal DNA repair protein: the Ada. O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase from E. coli.. Moore MH, Gulbis JM, Dodson EJ, Demple B, Moody PC;. EMBO J 1994;13:1495-1501. (from Pfam)
MGMT (O-6-methylguanine DNA methyltransferase) family protein similar to Vibrio parahaemolyticus DNA base-flipping protein, which binds to the damaged base O(6)-methylguanine and flips the base out of the DNA duplex into an extrahelical conformation to allow processing by repair proteins
methylated-DNA--[protein]-cysteine S-methyltransferase
All proteins in this family for which functions are known are involved alkyl-DNA transferases which remove alkyl groups from DNA as part of alkylation DNA repair. Some of the proteins in this family are also transcription regulators and have a distinct transcription regulatory domain. This family is based on the phylogenomic analysis of JA Eisen (1999, Ph.D. Thesis, Stanford University).
