ammonia-forming cytochrome c nitrite reductase subunit c552
Cytochrome c552 (cytochrome c nitrite reductase) is a crucial enzyme in the nitrogen cycle catalysing the reduction of nitrite to ammonia. The crystal structure of cytochrome c552 reveals it to be a dimer, with with 10 close-packed type c haem groups. [1]. 10440380. Structure of cytochrome c nitrite reductase. cytochrome c nitrite reductase
cytochrome c nitrite reductase (cytochrome c552) is a homodimeric decaheme enzyme that catalyzes the formate-dependent reduction of nitrite to ammonia
ammonia-forming nitrite reductase cytochrome c552 subunit
Members of this protein family are cytochrome c552, a component of cytochrome c nitrite reductase, which is known more formally as nitrite reductase (cytochrome; ammonia-forming) (EC 1.7.2.2). Nitrate can be reduced by several enzymes. EC 1.7.2.2 reduces nitrite all the way to ammonia, rather than to ammonium hydroxide (nitrite reductase (NAD(P)H), EC 1.7.1.4) or nitric oxide (nitrite reductase (NO-forming), EC 1.7.2.1). Some examples of EC 1.7.2.2 occur in a seven gene system that enables formate-dependent nitrite reduction, but is also found in simpler contexts. Members of this protein family, however, belong to the formate-dependent system.
