P-loop NTPase fold protein

The KAP (after Kidins220/ARMS and PifA) family of predicted NTPases are sporadically distributed across a wide phylogenetic range in bacteria and in animals. Many of the prokaryotic KAP NTPases are encoded in plasmids and tend to undergo disruption to form pseudogenes. A unique feature of all eukaryotic and certain bacterial KAP NTPases is the presence of two or four transmembrane helices inserted into the P-loop NTPase domain. These transmembrane helices anchor KAP NTPases in the membrane such that the P-loop domain is located on the intracellular side [1]. [1]. 15128444. A novel family of P-loop NTPases with an unusual phyletic distribution and transmembrane segments inserted within the NTPase domain. Aravind L, Iyer LM, Leipe DD, Koonin EV;. Genome Biol 2004;5:R30. zeta toxin family protein

This family consists of several bacterial zeta toxin proteins. Zeta toxin is thought to be part of a postregulational killing system in bacteria. It relies on antitoxin/toxin systems that secure stable inheritance of low and medium copy number plasmids during cell division and kill cells that have lost the plasmid [1]. [1]. 12571357. Crystal structure of the plasmid maintenance system epsilon/zeta: functional mechanism of toxin zeta and inactivation by epsilon 2 zeta 2 complex formation. Meinhart A, Alonso JC, Strater N, Saenger W;. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 2003;100:1661-1666. (from Pfam)
