Bcr/CflA family efflux MFS transporter

This subfamily of drug efflux proteins, a part of the major faciliator family, is predicted to have 12 membrane-spanning regions. Members with known activity include Bcr (bicyclomycin resistance protein) in E. coli, Flor (chloramphenicol and florfenicol resistance) in Salmonella typhimurium DT104, and CmlA (chloramphenicol resistance) in Pseudomonas sp. plasmid R1033.

CmlA/FloR family chloramphenicol efflux MFS transporter

This HMM identifies a number of distinctly named MFS transporters that perform efflux of chloramphenicol sufficient to confer resistance. Because members of the family include proteins designated CmlA, CmlB, and FloR, the generic term cml is now attached to this HMM. Note that this model does not include the rare, related protein originally found in plasmid R26 in 1986 and named Cml. Previously, this HMM carried the gene symbol "bcr/cflA", which we now judge to be misleading.
