Glycosyltransferase like family 2

Members of this family of prokaryotic proteins include putative glucosyltransferase, which are involved in bacterial capsule biosynthesis [1][2]. [1]. 9515923. Characterization of the gene cassette required for biosynthesis of the (alpha1-->6)-linked N-acetyl-D-mannosamine-1-phosphate capsule of serogroup A Neisseria meningitidis. Swartley JS, Liu LJ, Miller YK, Martin LE, Edupuganti S, Stephens DS;. J Bacteriol. 1998;180:1533-1539. [2]. 11953367. Novel Aeromonas hydrophila PPD134/91 genes involved in O-antigen and capsule biosynthesis. Zhang YL, Arakawa E, Leung KY;. Infect Immun. 2002;70:2326-2335. (from Pfam)

galactosyltransferase-related protein

This is the N-terminal domain of a family of galactosyltransferases from a wide range of Metazoa with three related galactosyltransferases activities, all three of which are possessed by one sequence in some cases. EC:2.4.1.90, N-acetyllactosamine synthase; EC:2.4.1.38, Beta-N-acetylglucosaminyl-glycopeptide beta-1,4- galactosyltransferase; and EC:2.4.1.22 Lactose synthase. Note that N-acetyllactosamine synthase is a component of Lactose synthase along with alpha-lactalbumin, in the absence of alpha-lactalbumin EC:2.4.1.90 is the catalysed reaction. [1]. 9435216. Molecular cloning of a human cDNA encoding beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase with 37% identity to mammalian UDP-Gal:GlcNAc beta-1,4-galactosyltransferase. Sato T, Furukawa K, Bakker H, Van den Eijnden DH, Van Die I;. Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A 1998;95:472-477. [2]. 9792633. Cloning of a novel member of the UDP-galactose:beta-N-acetylglucosamine beta1,4-galactosyltransferase family, beta4Gal-T4, involved in glycosphingolipid biosynthesis. Schwientek T, Almeida R, Levery SB, Holmes EH, Bennett E, Clausen H;. J Biol Chem 1998;273:29331-29340. (from Pfam)
