Lipid-A-disaccharide synthetase
This is a family of lipid-A-disaccharide synthetases, EC:2.4.2.128. These enzymes catalyse the reaction: UDP-2,3-bis(3-hydroxytetradecanoyl) glucosamine + 2,3-bis(3-hydroxytetradecanoyl)-beta-D-glucosaminyl 1-phosphate <=> UDP + 2,3-bis(3-hydroxytetradecanoyl)-D-glucosaminyl-1,6 -beta-D-2,3-bis(3-hydroxytetradecanoyl)-beta-D-glucosaminyl 1-phosphate. These enzymes catalyse the fist disaccharide step in the synthesis of lipid-A-disaccharide. [1]. 8917090. lipid-A-disaccharide synthase
lipid-A-disaccharide synthase catalyzes the condensation of UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine and 2,3-diacylglucosamine-1-phosphate to form lipid A disaccharide, a precursor of lipid A, a phosphorylated glycolipid that anchors the lipopolysaccharide to the outer membrane of the cell
Lipid-A-disaccharide synthase catalyzes the formation of lipid A disaccharide (a precursor of lipid A) from UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine and 2,3-diacylglucosamine-1-phosphate. Lipid A, the innermost part of lipopolysaccharide (LPS, also called endotoxin), contains multiple acyl groups that are linked to the sugars and that insert into the outer membrane.
