glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase
This family of enzymes catalyses the transfer of an acyl group from acyl-ACP to glycerol-3-phosphate to form lysophosphatidic acid [1]]. [1]. 16949372. Acyl-phosphates initiate membrane phospholipid synthesis in Gram-positive pathogens. Lu YJ, Zhang YM, Grimes KD, Qi J, Lee RE, Rock CO;. Mol Cell. 2006;23:765-772. (from Pfam)
glycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase catalyzes the transfer of an acyl group from acyl-phosphate (acyl-PO(4)) to glycerol-3-phosphate (G3P) to form lysophosphatidic acid (LPA)
glycerol-3-phosphate 1-O-acyltransferase PlsY
This HMM represents the full length of acylphosphate:glycerol 3-phosphate acyltransferase, and integral membrane protein about 200 amino acids in length, called PlsY in Streptococcus pneumoniae, YneS in Bacillus subtilis, and YgiH in E. coli. It is found in a single copy in a large number of bacteria, including the Mycoplasmas but not Mycobacteria or spirochetes, for example. Its partner is PlsX (see TIGR00182), and the pair can replace PlsB for synthesizing 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate.
