metallophosphoesterase

This family includes a diverse range of phosphoesterases [1], including protein phosphoserine phosphatases, nucleotidases, sphingomyelin phosphodiesterases and 2'-3' cAMP phosphodiesterases as well as nucleases such as bacterial SbcD Swiss:P13457 or yeast MRE11 Swiss:P32829. The most conserved regions in this superfamily centre around the metal chelating residues. [1]. 9685491. Phosphoesterase domains associated with DNA polymerases of diverse origins. UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine diphosphatase

This HMM represents LpxH, UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine hydrolase, and essential enzyme in E. coli that catalyzes the fourth step in lipid A biosynthesis. Note that Pseudomonas aeruginosa has both a member of this family that shares this function and a more distant homolog, designated LpxH2, that does not. Many species that produce lipid A lack an lpxH gene in this family; some of those species have an lpxH2 gene instead, although for which the function is unknown.

UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine diphosphatase

UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine diphosphatase catalyzes the fourth step of lipid A biosynthesis, in which a precursor UDP-2,3-diacylglucosamine is hydrolyzed to yield 2,3-diacylglucosamine 1-phosphate and UMP; belongs to the metallophosphoesterase (MPP) superfamily
