DUF4880 domain-containing protein
This domain can be found on the N-terminal of uncharacterized proteins from various Rhodopseudomonas and Pseudomonas species, often, but not always followed by the ron siderophore sensor protein family (FecR, PF04773). The function of this domain is unknown. (from Pfam)
FecR domain-containing protein
This domain is found at the C-terminal of FecR [1,2], which adopts a secretin N0-like fold [1]. FecARI are responsible for induction of the ferric citrate uptake system. When ferric citrate binds FecA, a signal is transmitted across the outer membrane to FecR, a cytoplasmic membrane protein that transmits signal across the membrane and activates the sigma-70 family protein FecI [2]. [1]. 32107313. Structural basis of cell-surface signaling by a conserved sigma regulator in Gram-negative bacteria. Jensen JL, Jernberg BD, Sinha SC, Colbert CL;. J Biol Chem. 2020;295:5795-5806. [2]. 10633096. Surface signaling in ferric citrate transport gene induction: interaction of the FecA, FecR, and FecI regulatory proteins. Enz S, Mahren S, Stroeher UH, Braun V;. J Bacteriol. 2000;182:637-646. (from Pfam)
FecR is involved in regulation of iron dicitrate transport. In the absence of citrate FecR inactivates FecI. FecR is probably a sensor that recognises iron dicitrate in the periplasm. [1]. 2254251. Novel two-component transmembrane transcription control: regulation of iron dicitrate transport in Escherichia coli K-12. Van Hove B, Staudenmaier H, Braun V;. J Bacteriol 1990;172:6749-6758. (from Pfam)
ferric citrate uptake sigma factor regulator FecR
With FecA forms the FecAR signal transduction system; ferric citrate binds FecA and transmits a signal across the outer membrane to FecR. FecR undergoes multiple cleavages, including by the intramembrane protease RseP, to transmit signal across the cytoplasmic membrane and activate the ECF-type sigma factor FecI that directs the RNA polymerase to express the fecABCDE operon. Because FecR is reported to have anti-sigma factor activity as well as pro-sigma factor activity, it is given a more general name of sigma factor regulator.
FecR family protein
FecR family protein similar to Escherichia coli FecR, a periplasmic protein that functions as a sensor that recognizes iron(III) dicitrate and is part of the two-component system, FecI-FecR, involved in regulation of iron dicitrate transport
