preprotein translocase subunit SecE

SecE is part of the SecYEG complex in bacteria which translocates proteins from the cytoplasm. In eukaryotes the complex, made from Sec61-gamma and Sec61-alpha translocates protein from the cytoplasm to the ER. Archaea have a similar complex. [1]. 9393849. Protein translocation in the three domains of life: variations on a theme. Pohlschroder M, Prinz WA, Hartmann E, Beckwith J;. Cell 1997;91:563-566. (from Pfam)

preprotein translocase subunit SecE

preprotein translocase subunit SecE is an essential subunit of the Sec protein translocation channel SecYEG and it clamps together the 2 halves of SecY; may contact the channel plug during translocation

preprotein translocase subunit SecE

This HMM represents exclusively the bacterial (and some organellar) SecE protein. SecE is part of the core heterotrimer, SecYEG, of the Sec preprotein translocase system. Other components are the ATPase SecA, a cytosolic chaperone SecB, and an accessory complex of SecDF and YajC.
