ribosome hibernation factor SRA

This family represents the stationary-phase-induced ribosome-associated protein SRA also known as protein D. This protein was originally thought to be a ribosomal protein [1]. More recently it was shown that this is a ribosome hibernation factor that together with the factors Rmf, Hpf and RaiA is bound to the ribosomes during the onset and a few first days of the stationary phase when translation is strongly suppressed. In the prolonged stationary phase these factors dissociate from the ribosomes [2]. [1]. 11168583. Two proteins, YfiA and YhbH, associated with resting ribosomes in stationary phase Escherichia coli. stationary-phase-induced ribosome-associated protein

Stationary phase-induced ribosome-associated protein (SRA) was previously known as RpsV or Protein D. It is one of a number of proteins that interact with ribosomes under nutrient-limiting conditions.
