MMPL family transporter

Members of this family are putative integral membrane proteins from bacteria. Several of the members are mycobacterial proteins. Many of the proteins contain two copies of this aligned region. The function of these proteins is not known, although it has been suggested that they may be involved in lipid transport [1]. [1]. 10694977. efflux RND transporter permease subunit

Members of this family are integral membrane proteins. Some are involved in drug resistance. AcrB cooperates with a membrane fusion protein, AcrA, and an outer membrane channel TolC. The structure shows the AcrB forms a homotrimer [1]. [1]. 12374972. Crystal structure of bacterial multidrug efflux transporter AcrB. Murakami S, Nakashima R, Yamashita E, Yamaguchi A;. vibriobactin export RND transporter permease subunit VexH

The RND transporter VexGH was originally characterized as a multidrug efflux transporter providing some resistance to bile acids, nonionic detergents, ampicillin, and novobiocin. However, export of the siderophore vibriobactin was later shown, and may be considered the more critical function.
