BhlA/UviB family holin-like peptide
Holins are phage proteins, generally of small size, whose expression late in the phage life cycle disrupts the cytoplasmic membrane and triggers the lysis that allows phage particles to escape. UviB, a member of this family, is notable for being encoded on a plasmid, next to a large bacteriocin, BCN5. The holin-like peptide is likely to play a role in release of the plasmid-encoded bacteriocin, as seen in other systems.
